Sascha Ott was appointed Minister of Justice for the CDU in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Now the party withdraws the candidate surprisingly. Background is a sympathy statement on Facebook.
The Stralsund prosecutor Ott should have "geliked" a side of the right-handpopulist AfD on Facebook. He was "clumsy" in his dealings with the social media, said Lorenz Caffier, the country's chairman and interior minister, at the regional party conference in Wittenburg. The CDU does not want Ott to go "damaged" to the office.
Ott had, among other things, provided the "Fancy" page of an AfD regional association on his Facebook site, as the "Schweriner Volkszeitung" reported on their website the evening before.
The CDU now wants to propose the lawyer Katy Hoffmeister as Minister of Justice. Until now, he has been working in the personnel department of the University Hospital in Rostock and is married to the former head of the SPD, Bodo Wiegang-Hoffmeister.
