Since September 2016, the Fanny-Hensel-Grundschule in Berlin-Kreuzberg, together with TURIYA-Yoga-Berlin, offers weekly 45 minutes of yoga for its youngest pupils - with a positive response from children and teachers.

Dilara is already impatiently sliding around her chair. Two hours of strenuous and concentrated work lie behind her. But Dilara knows she can move, stretch, stretch, breathe, and rest. Once a week, always on Fridays, she is picked up by Katharina, her yog teacher, with 12 other children of her class to the Yogastunde. A time that the first-grader enjoys, because headwork is tiring.

Self-awareness and mindfulness - yoga works for children
In their yogakurs, the students learn movements and breathing exercises, which demonstrably reduce the stress, concentrate on concentration, self-awareness and mindfulness, and strengthen social competences, away from the hustle and bustle of the school day. Sustainability is also important for the pedagogical team, because, in school daytime, the concentration should gradually subside and the urge to move becomes too great, children and teachers have a repertoire of exercises and techniques which they can always fall back on in common lessons.

And Dilara? After the exercises, learning is much easier.

Financing the Yogakurse is complicated, but it is worth it. Together with the Friends of the Fanny Hensel Primary School, the support of the Foundation for Education and a private donation, it has also been possible to offer yoga for children of the interdisciplinary classes (1 to 3) at the Fanny Hensel Elementary School in the 2017 school year.

The funding of this project was made possible by the donor network within the Foundation. Donations to the Foundation's education create a lot - additional courses like this here, foster the concentration of the children: taking care and learning in lessons is easier.

Here, you can support the Foundation through donations and become a member of our commitment network.
